예원, 서울예고를 거쳐 서울대학교 음악대학을 졸업한 후, 도미하여 뉴잉글랜드 콘서바토리에 입학한 피아니스트 주희성은 석사학위을 취득, 동대학에서 Graduate Diploma 와 Artist Diploma를 취득하였다. 서울예고 재학시절 한국 일보 콩쿠르에서 대상, 이미 그 실력을 인정 받았으며 1991년 동아 음악 콩쿠르에서 1위를 수상하면서 정상급 연주자로서의 입지를 확고히 했다. 이후, 국내 뿐만 아니라 국제 콩쿨에서도 활약하기 시작하여 Wideman International Piano Competition에서 입상, New England Conservatory Commencement Concerto Competition에서 1위,영국 Dudley International Piano Competition에서 1위, Simone Belsky International Music Award에서 1위, New Orleans International Piano Competition에서 각각 1위를 차지하는 등의 화려한 입상경력을 쌓았다. 이외에도 William Kapell International Piano Competition에서 The Nancy W. Miller Memorial Prize를 수상하는 등 다양한 국제 콩쿨에서 인정 받으면서 세계적인 연주자로서 거듭났다. 
서울 시향, 울산 시향, 코리안 심포니와의 협연 등, 국내에서의 연주 뿐만 아니라 뉴올리언즈 Orpheum Theater에서 Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra
와 협연, 영국 Dudley Town Hall에서 The Corinthian Orchestra와 협연, Jordan Hall에서 New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra와 협연 등 국내외에서 폭 넓은 연주활동을 펼쳐왔다. 월간 피아노 음악 주최 피아니스트 데뷔 음악회, 조선일보사 주최 신인 음악회, 서울 예술의 전당 유망 신예 초청 연주 시리즈 등에서 다수의 신인 연주회를 가졌으며, 영국 런던 Royal Festival Hall에서의 독주회로 데뷔, 보스턴의 Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Auditorium, Jordan Hall 등에서 여러 차례의 독주회를 가졌다. 또한 뉴욕 Queens Public Library, Millard Auditorium, Wesleyan University Crowell Concert Hall, 뉴올리언즈 Loyola University Roussel Hall 등, 다양한 무대에서 활약하였다.
국 내외의 수십여 차례의 독주회 및 세계 유수의 오케스트라와의 협연 무대를 통한 연주활동 뿐만 아니라, 실내악 연주에서도 큰 활약을 펼친 피아니스트 주희성은 Jordan Hall에서 Scott Andrews, Hsin-Yun Huang 와의 Trio 연주, James Buswell, Laurence Lesser 와의 kirchner Piano Trio 연주 등의 활동을 하였으며 국내 무대에서 Seoul Chamber Music Society와 연주, 그리고 아울로스 목관 5중주와의 연주 등 듀오를 비롯한 다양한 앙상블 연주활동을 펼쳐 왔다. 
변화경, Russell Sherman, Paul Rutman, 김형배, 한옥수, 이강순, 김재은에게 사사한 피아니스트 주희성은 뉴잉글랜드 컨서바토리 프레파라토리스쿨에서 3년여 피아노과 교수로 있으면서 학생들을 지도하기도 했으며, 현재 모교인 서울대학교 음악대학 기악과 교수로 재직하면서 연주 활동 뿐만 아니라 후학에도 힘쓰고 있다.
