정민
Min Chung, Conductor
지휘자 정 민은 1984년 독일 자르부뤼켄 출생 후 프랑스로 이주하여 콘트라베이스와 피아노로 음악공부를 시작하였다. 프랑스에서 고등학교 졸업 후 한국으로 온 그는 서울대학교에서 바이올린과 독어독문학을 수학했고, 독어독문학으로 학사학위를 받았다.
정 민은 2007년부터 마리아 수녀회에서 운영하는 부산 <알로이시오 오케스트라>를 지도하며, 본격적인 지휘자로서의 길을 걷기 시작했다. 탁월한 리더십과 음악성으로 알로이시오 오케스트라를 조련하며 다수의 공연을 무대에 올렸고, 2010년에는 이들을 이끌고 뉴욕 카네기홀 무대에 데뷔, 전석 매진을 기록하며, 모두가 기적이라고 표현할 만큼 성공적인 무대를 선사했다. 이를 계기로 정 민은 차세대를 이끌 지휘자로 주목 받게 되었고, 그와 알로이시오 오케스트라는 예술의 전당이 주최하는 <2012 교향악 축제>의 특별 프로그램에 초청받아 발군의 실력을 선보이며 우리나라를 대표하는 청소년 오케스트라로서의 입지를 굳건히 하였다. 이 밖에도 <미라클오브뮤직 오케스트라>, <세종 나눔 앙상블>과 함께 많은 음악회를 진행하며, 베토벤과 브람스의 전 교향곡, 모차르트, 차이코프스키, 드보르작, 로시니, 말러 교향곡 등 다양한 교향곡과 오케스트라 작품들을 지휘하였다. 2013년부터는 안양예술문화재단의 첫 상주예술단체 <디토 오케스트라>의 수석지휘자로 활동 하고 있다.
해외무대로도 활동 반경을 넓히고 있는 정 민은 2012년 일본 후쿠오카 심포니 홀에서 규슈 심포니 오케스트라를, 도쿄 산토리 홀에서 치바현 청소년 오케스트라를 지휘하며 성공적인 일본 데뷔를 마쳤고, 2013년 10월 도쿄 필하모닉 오케스트라 공연을 성황리에 마쳤으며, 2014년부터 도쿄 필하모닉의 부 지휘자로 활동할 예정이다.
오페라 분야에서도 두각을 나타내고 있는 정 민은 2010년 국립 오페라단의 오페라 <어린이와 마법> <나비부인> 등의 지휘를 맡아 뛰어난 음악성과 해석력으로 평단과 문화 애호가들의 호평을 받은 바 있다. 2013년 이태리 레체 테아트로 폴리테아마 그레코 극장의 페스티벌 폐막작 베르디의 오페라 <라 트라비아타>를 매회 연속 매진으로 성황리에 마치며 이태리에 데뷔하였고 열정의 지휘자로 극찬 받으며 <돈 카를로>로 재 초청 받았다. 이 외에도, 2014년 5월 국립 오페라단의 오페라 <돈 카를로>, 11월 오스트리아 비엔나 챔버 오케스트라를 비롯하여, 미국 하와이 심포니 오케스트라, 프랑스 낭시 오케스트라 등 국내에선 물론, 미주, 아시아, 유럽지역의 많은 오케스트라 진출이 예정되어 있다.
Min Chung, Conductor
Regarded as one of the most promising young conductors of today, Min Chung was born in Saarbrücken, Germany and moved to France at a young age where he started musical studies with the double bass and piano. After relocating to Korea, he attended Seoul National University majoring in violin and German Literature.
He made his conducting debut in 2007 with the Aloysius Symphony Orchestra (formerly known as the Boystown Symphony Orchestra), an orchestra based in Busan, Korea that is mainly composed of children of disadvantaged background and orphans. His collaboration with the orchestra culminated in triumphant performances at Carnegie Hall in 2010, and Suntory Hall in 2012. Since then he has continued extensive touring with the orchestra both in Korea and abroad, and has effectively established the orchestra as one of the finest youth orchestras in the country.
Since, Min Chung conducted many orchestras, notably Tokyo Philharmonic, the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra and numerous youth orchestras in Japan.
In Korea he has been working extensively with the Ditto Festival Orchestra as their principle conductor and with the MBC Orchestra in Daegu.
He has recently been appointed as associate conductor to Tokyo Philharmonic.
His collaboration with the orchestra this season includes Beethoven 9th symphony.
Min Chung has had huge successes conducting in opera houses as well.
They include full productions of L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, Madama Butterfly at the Korean National Opera and La Traviata at the Politeama Theatre in Lecce, Italy.
Min Chung will make immediate returns to both opera houses this season with Verdi's Don Carlo.
